Spinal Fusion Treatment
Spinal fusion (or spondylodesis or arthrodesis or spondylosyndesis) is a neurosurgical
or orthopedic surgical technique to treat and cure lower back pain arising due to a gap
within the vertebrates.
The bone graft either from the patient bones (a small section of pelvic bone is removed)
or synthetic source or allograft (another person of same cell type) is placed at the
vertebral segment using:
Internal fixation-once the bone graft is taken place surgeon uses plates, screws and
rods to keep the spine immobile.
Biological fixation- natural response of normal healing process is used to create bone
fusion
This particular procedure (spinal fusion) although can be performed at any level in the
spine but it is not free from any complications (blood clot, infection etc) a proper
consultation with surgeon is advised.
