Knee Replacement
Knee arthroplasty also known as knee replacement is the orthopaedic (orthopedic)
procedure which relieves the pain and disability and restore mobility, it is most
commonly offered when joint pain is immense and impedes regular movement.
In this medical procedure the damaged bone and cartilage from the thighbone,
shinbone and kneecap is cut away and replaced with an artificial prosthetics.
Technically speaking the knee replacement surgery should be more accurately termed
as knee "resurfacing" because only the surface of the bones are replaced by the weight bearing mechanism of a damaged, worn, or diseased knee joint.
However not every knee injury or disease requires knee replacement or resurfacing,
age, severity of injury and all other factors should be taken into consideration along with
the orthopaedic (orthopedic) surgeon consultation
