Cervical Cancer Treatment
Depending upon the diagnosis a doctor may prescribe one or more of the following
treatment for cervical cancer:
Medication
Immunotherapy-patient immune is utilized to fight the cancer cells
Targeted therapy-blocking the hormones required by cancer cells for growth
Chemotherapy- special drugs to shrink and kill the cancer tissues
Radiation Therapy
Uses high energy x-rays or other electromagnetic waves to obliterate cancer at cellular
level
Surgery
Surgical removal of cervix (radical trachelectomy) or cervix and uterus
(hysterectomy) or uterus, cervix, bladder, lower colon, rectum and other organs within
the body cavity of pelvis (exenteration)
Loop electrosurgical excision procedure- electrical current based loop is used to
remove the cancerous tissue
In case of microinvasive cancer conization or Loop electrosurgical excision
procedure surgical procedure can be used to remove the tumor
