Brain Tumor Treatment
After ascertaining the type of brain tumors-primary or metastatic, benign or malignant
oncologist may assign one or more of the following treatment(s).
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy uses drugs (which can be taken orally in pill form or injected into a vein
intravenously) to kill the tumor cells.
Surgery
Doctors often prescribe surgery for primary brain tumors whereby a surgeon removes
all or part of the tumor without causing severe damage to surrounding tissues and brain
cells.
Apart from chemotherapy and surgery, radiation therapy (radiation kills the tumor
cells) and clinical trials (a clinical trial is a research study that tests a new drug; a new
combination of standard treatments; or new doses of standard drugs or other
treatments) are also utilized to effectively treat the brain tumors.
