Bladder Cancer Treatment
Depending upon the stage of bladder cancer there are certain options regarding its
treatment:
Surgery- Most often the bladder cancer(s) is treated with surgery alone, different types
of surgery are available, in case of early-stage the tumor is removed while in the later, stage the surgical process is complemented by chemo and radiation therapy.
Chemotherapy- When surgery isn't an option for some patient chemo can be an
alternative primary treatment. Furthermore chemotherapy is also utilized to increase the
cure chance in a person whose bladder is set to be removed.
In general radiation therapy is not used as a primary treatment for bladder cancer, but
in combination with systemic chemotherapy it is deployed to shrink the size of tumor
right before the surgical procedure. In some instances where surgery isn't desired or a
viable option radiation therapy can be a primary treatment to destroy the cancer cells.
