Angiography (arteriography) is a medical diagnostic technique used to study malformed (narrow, blocked, enlarged) blood vessels (arteries or veins) in different parts of body (brain, neck, abdomen, legs) the heart in this case (cardiology.

In this diagnostic procedure a special radiopaque (contrast material not transparent to X-ray or other radiation) dye is injected into patient’s blood to visualize the blood flow through veins, arteries and heart chambers. The resultant X-ray image makes it possible for doctors to see the extent and severity of blockage in blood vessel (arteries or veins) or any other heart disease (blood clot, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and aneurysm). This help the cardiologist to initiate the treatment includes the likes of angioplasty, stenting, bypass graft surgery, double valve replacement, AVR/MVR and medications.
